The conclusion of a Dissertation conclusion example is just as important as the rest of it. In a typical dissertation, the Conclusion and Discussion chapters are separate. They discuss similar things, but they are different because the Dissertation conclusion example and conclusion only provides a high-level view. In contrast, the Discussion goes into the intricacies of the matter as well.

Conclusions are important because they wrap up everything your research set out to prove/disprove. Many people who read papers for research tend to only read the abstract and then the conclusion. If the conclusion is not convincing enough, then they may set aside your dissertation instead of reading it further.

Now, let’s see how to write a conclusion for your dissertation. Of course, keep in mind that these instructions are not “hard and fast rules”, they can change depending on your institute’s requirements. But as a general rule of thumb, you can apply them to write your conclusion.

How to Conclude Your Dissertation

As we have said before, the Conclusion is different from the Discussion. So, don’t summarize your discussion and call it a conclusion. Another thing you need to look out for is to never introduce new data or findings in the conclusion. If you do need to add something, you have to go back to the “Results” section and “Discussion” to add them.

Now, with that out of the way, we can start writing the conclusion

⦁ Give a Brief Overview

At the start of the conclusion, you need to briefly describe what you will discuss in it. You also need to address the order in which everything will be discussed.

Typically, this part of the conclusion should not exceed three or four lines. It serves to preface the rest of the content of the conclusion. It also sets your reader’s expectations as to what they will read moving on.This also helpswhen the readers jump straight to the conclusion from the introduction.

⦁ Do a High-Level Discussion of Your Findings

You have to do a high-level discussion of your findings. Discuss how your findings are significant and how they can help other people. In this part, keep your tone firm, but humble.
Refrain from using terms such as “our study proves/disproves….”Rather, employ the words “can/may” etc. The reason is that one study cannot prove or disprove anything on its own. That’s the job of entire teams and huge research facilities.
Be sure to not go into any details. Those have already been covered in the “Discussion” section. Your job is to discuss the findings in relation to your problem statement/research question. It sets the context for your reader and tells them why the findings are important.

⦁ Justify Your Contribution

In this part of the conclusion, you need to tell your readers how your solution to the research question is significant. Some tips for highlighting that are as follows:
⦁ Mention real-world applications of your work
Show how your work has filled some of the gaps in the previously done work on this subject/field
Discuss how your work supplements or challenges current theories relevant to the subject
Be sure not to be a braggart. Your writing tone must be firm yet humble. Being too proud can make a negative impression on your audience.

Identify Limitations and Future Research Opportunities

All studies are not perfect. They all have some kind of justifiable limitations. You need to tell your audience about any limitations that your research was conducted under. However, downplay their significance because overemphasizing them could undermine your work.
The purpose of the limitations is not to disparage yourself. It is to give the opportunity to other people to build upon your work by addressing those limitations. That is how research is done in the world.

Present a Summary of Your Conclusion at the End

Finally, the last part of the conclusion should be just a summary of the entire Conclusion section. That is not difficult to do. You can do it either yourself, or you can get a summarizer to do it for you.
To get a summarizer to make the summary, simply feed it the entire conclusion section that has been written to it. The tool will create an extractive summary of the section. This means that no new information will be added to the summary as well. Rather, the tool will simply use the existing sentences and lines from the input to create it.

Alternatively, you can get a summarizer to make the summary and then edit it to your liking. The benefit of this method is that you can remove any abruptness that may have occurred in the content as a result of the extractive technique. Whichever method works for you, you can opt to use that.

That is a general way of writing a conclusion for your dissertation. With these five tips, you will never feel lost while writing a conclusion. You can also modify these tips according to your institute’s requirements if the need arises.
