Community Economic Development is an approach to local economic development that is aligned with the social, environmental, and economic priorities of the community. Community Economic Development caters to those interested in improving the local economy for underserved groups or those with special challenges such as addressing local unemployment, increasing energy efficiency, or increasing local spending. Disaster preparedness refers to the actions taken to prepare for and reduce the adverse effects of disasters. This may include predicting when and where disasters are likely to occur and, where possible, preventing disasters.

Public administrators ensure that policies are put in place to help public health officers respond to disease outbreaks and see to it that measures are also in place to prevent other diseases from breaking out hence, safeguarding the health of the community.
